Excellence - A Talawanda Community Commitment
From the Desk of Dr. Phil Cagwin

Talawanda’s Vision: A Community Committed to Excellence
Talawanda’s Mission: To ensure that all students succeed by providing excellent program and instruction, engaging our stakeholders, and maintaining fiscal responsibility.
I am very proud to share that the Talawanda School District has achieved an excellent rating on the Ohio State Report Card for this past school year. Talawanda High School has earned an excellent rating for the fourth consecutive year, Bogan Elementary earned it's first excellent rating, and Kramer Elementary was 0.1 points short of excellent with a 99.9 performance index. You may access the report card here.
You have my commitment to continue to work with our faculty, staff, students, and parents to continue on the path of excellence. We will strive every day to meet the needs of every one of our children. Through recent initiatives such as our student assistance program (SAP), district wellness program, extra-time/extra help and our freshmen academy, we will continue to help students gain the skills and the support they need to achieve personal excellence.
The central office staff and the Board of Education have dedicated themselves to finding the best ways to engage our community and build bridges throughout the community. We appreciate your support as we work towards modernizing our facilities in order to provide the best educational opportunities we can. This coming November the Board will be asking our community to support a 4.7 mills bond issue for a new high school. This would cost the owner of a $100,000 home $145 dollars a year, or $12 per month.
We are working hard to communicate the facts about this plan. A new high school will provide science labs that will meet state standards. We will be able to increase the opportunities for our students to learn through the use of modern technology with an increase in our electrical capacity. A new high school will meet safety/fire and ADA standards. We will be able to provide a media center designed for education of today. I believe that communities who invest in public education attract new families and new businesses.
In closing, I would like to emphasize our constant efforts to improve existing programs and to develop new ones as needed through our district continuous improvement plan process (CIP). Each year we work with staff, parents, and community members to evaluate how we deliver education to our students, how responsible we are with your tax dollars, and how well we communicate. I encourage you to get involved and work with us to continue to make Talawanda among the best in the State and to enhance the experiences and opportunities that we can provide to the Talawanda Community!
Thank you!
