
Unzicker often led the McGuffey Green Devil basketball team in scoring, during his two varsity seasons. his senior year he set a single game school record by scoring 30 points.
He found even more success as a baseball player! One memorable game in 1950, Emerson struck out 17 batters as McGuffey beat Hamilton 1-0 on a "one hitter"! Unzicker won 3 varsity letters at McGuffey in baseball, then went on to play professional baseball.
Emerson has a successful minor league career in the Brooklyn Dodger organization, including the following records:
• 1952 15 wins for Great Falls SD
• 1953 Newport News 15-6 record
• 1954 Almira NY 11-6 record
• 1955 Pueblo CO 9-6 record
• 1956 Kokomo IN 8-7 record
• 1957 Kokomo IN 20-8 record (his best season)
Emerson married his wife Janice, "in uniform" at home plate! Tonight we recognize Emerson Unzicker for his athletic achievements, and welcome him into the 7th class of Talawanda Athletic Hall of Fame!
