Emerson Unzicker is a 1950 graduate of McGuffey school who excelled athletically in basketball and baseball during his high school career. Although not the biggest athlete on the field or court, Emerson's athletic presence was always obvious, and he developed into one of McGuffey School's most outstanding athletes! Many feel his personal pride and work ethic were the keys to his success after high school playing professional baseball in the Dodger organization.
Unzicker often led the McGuffey Green Devil basketball team in scoring, during his two varsity seasons. his senior year he set a single game school record by scoring 30 points.
He found even more success as a baseball player! One memorable game in 1950, Emerson struck out 17 batters as McGuffey beat Hamilton 1-0 on a "one hitter"! Unzicker won 3 varsity letters at McGuffey in baseball, then went on to play professional baseball.
Emerson has a successful minor league career in the Brooklyn Dodger organization, including the following records:
• 1952 15 wins for Great Falls SD
• 1953 Newport News 15-6 record
• 1954 Almira NY 11-6 record
• 1955 Pueblo CO 9-6 record
• 1956 Kokomo IN 8-7 record
