In a sport full of lifetime, year
‘round, one sport specialists, “Tennis Brats”,
personal tennis pros and pushing parents, Julie
Peirson found tennis success by taking a different
approach. While playing up to 3 different sports at
Talawanda High School, Julie followed her own plan of
training, based on the principles of hard work,
self-discipline and a relentless pursuit of
excellence. She took advantage of tennis opportunities
in Oxford practicing endlessly with her coach Dan
Purcell, or working with Miami University tennis
players and coaches as they were available. Nobody
outworked Julie Peirson! Julie is unquestionably
Talawanda's most successful tennis player! A four year
varsity performer from 1988-1992, Julie dominated
Mid-Miami League competition going undefeated for four
years! Julie was awarded the MML Tennis Player of the
Year all four years she competed, was a four time
champion at the No.1 singles position, and was All
Greater Cincinnati First Team her junior and senior
years. She qualified for the “Sweet 16” state
championship in both 91' and 92' and has an 87-14
lifetime match record!
When not playing tennis, Julie was a four year starter on
the THS basketball team, earning all MML First Team honors
her senior season, and ran track for two years as well!
Following graduation from THS, Julie earned her grant in
aid to play tennis for the Ball State Cardinals from
1992-1996. At BSU Julie accomplishments include being named
the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Academic All Team,
and winning the Tennis Magazine/Arthur Ashe Sportsmanship
Award in 1996.
Julie Peirson, now a happy mother of twins, will be
remembered as a humble, classy intelligent, successful,
self made tennis champion. She remains a tremendous role
model for all female athletes who dream big dreams, and
then turn them into realities.
