The late Bill Moeller once described this inductee in his column in the Journal News with the statement, “Bo Brickels came to Oxford as a 10 year old, and later developed into one of the all-time great athletes in Butler County history.” A man with a keen eye for athletes, and a hand on the pulse of athletics in the area, Moeller was right on target with this description Bo Brickels won 11 varsity letters at McGuffey High School (4 in football and baseball, and 3 in basketball), not to mention holding down a spot for two years on the McGuffey golf team, and a 2 time winner of the school's wrestling championship.

In football, Brickels was All Little Southwestern League as McGuffey's quarterback and in basketball, All Butler County honors were earned after averaging 21.0 points per game his senior season. It was Bo's second season as an All County Selection! These accomplishments were even more impressive when compared to Bo's stature at 5'7” in height!

Not only an outstanding athlete, Bo Brickels was an honor student as well. He was the editor of the school publication, The Mirror, and was the schools delegate to the prestigious Buckeyes Boys State!

Bo Brickels graduated in McGuffey's final class prior to its merger with Hanover, Reily, and Stewart into today's Talawanda High School. He attended Miami University following graduation and currently resides in Davidson, North Carolina.
