Susan Cummings was an outstanding athlete in the early days of Talawanda High School. A 1967 graduate of Talawanda, Susan participated in Field Hockey, Volleyball, Basketball, and Track. Susan was recognized as a star athlete in all sports and was also an active member of the Girls Athletic Association for three years.

During Susan's senior year, she helped lead the Field Hockey, Basketball, and Volleyball teams to undefeated seasons. In track, Susan co-established the shuttle-run record with a time of 8.8 seconds. It was also during her senior year that Susan received the Outstanding Sportsmanship Award.

After graduating from Talawanda, Susan continued to be active in many sports activities including softball, golf, and tennis. In 1967, 1968, and again in 1969, Susan was named the American Softball Association's All Ohio softball shortstop, and helped lead her team to an Ohio state championship, and a fifth place finish in the United States Championship Series. In golf, Susan was a runner-up in “A” flight Oxford Country Club in 1967, and in tennis finished in first place in the 1976 Amoco Production Company Tournament. In 1992, Susan was recognized for her outstanding abilities and accomplishments by being elected to the Butler County Softball Hall of Fame.
