Jack Hansel attended two years of high school at Stewart and two at THS, from which he was graduated in 1958. Jack earned letters in three sports – four in basketball, two in baseball, and two in cross-country. A broken ankle in football his sophomore year cut short a promising career in that sport.

Jack's THS basketball honors included being starting point guard in his junior and senior years, both of which the team won a league championship. He was captain and MVP of the 1957-58 team, and first team all league. Also that year, he was the team's leading scorer, scoring in double figures in every game, averaging 16.5 points in 18 games.

He was a member of the cross country team that won the league championship his senior year, and placed fourth as an individual in the championship meet. He played left field on the 1957-58 league championship baseball team, and battled over .300 that year.

After graduation, Jack played in the Salvation Army League for six years, and in 1967, was named to the All-Star Team and was the scoring leader with 24.5 average. Jack turned down several possible college scholarships in basketball to pursue his dream of being successful businessman. He achieved that goal over the past 45 years as operator and eventual owner of the Oxford Farm Service and the Whistle Stop.

Jack is married to the former Sharon Starnes also a THS graduate, and they have two daughters, Kim, Kelly, and a granddaughter Allison. Jack's coach, Don Knodel, remembers him as one of the best high school players he ever coached.
