In the early years of Talawanda High School Betty Knox was the athletic booster club! She organized it, and was the driving force behind it in those early years. She organized an annual booster carnival that raised thousands of dollars for athletic equipment for the girls and as well as the boys. She was a tireless mother and never missed a football or basketball game.

A complete community citizen, Betty went on to earn acclaim as a driving force who focused attention on senior citizens. Her work in this area was widely recognized and in 1966 she was named one of “Oxford's Citizens of the Years”.
