Joe is a 1963 graduate of Talawanda High School. His participation as a Braves’ athlete epitomized the true essence of high school athletics; total team commitment and unselfish dedication. As an athlete, his contributions in football, wrestling and baseball were not through individual recognition, but a greater purpose: the team concept. This quality made him a coach’s dream.

After graduation from Miami in 1968, he returned to the Talawanda Schools as a teacher/coach. Joe coached football at Talawanda High School from1968-1975, baseball from 1968-1972, and girls’ track from 1969-1971. Many young athletes received solid coaching instructions on the playing fields while also benefiting from lifetime values through positive experiences. Joe served as Assistant Principal at T.H.S. from 1974 through 1991. He became Director of the Butler County D. Russell Lee J.V.S. in 1991, and retired from public school education, after thirty years, in 1998. Joe presently serves as Principal at St. Joseph Consolidated School in Hamilton.

Joe has continued to strongly support and assist the Talawanda Schools. His present most recognized role is the “Voice of the Braves”, announcing the Friday night football games.

Again with pride, we induct Joe Pyfrin as a member of the third class of the Talawanda Athletic Hall of Fame.
