Kate Thomas, after nearly twenty
years since her graduation, remains as one of
Talawanda’s all time great athletes. In basketball,
her records for career rebounds and for career assists
still stand! She ranks third in career scoring. During
her basketball career at Talawanda, she won many
honors. She was the team captain her senior year and
the team’s most valuable player for two years. In
addition, Kate was a third team All State selection in
1981, and was Honorable Mention all state in 1982. She
was named to the M.M.L. first team All Atar team for
three consecutive years. Her senior year, she was
named to the first team All Star squad by the
Cincinnati Post newspaper, and to the first team
Greater Cincinnati All Star team. Kate also played in
the North South Ohio All Atar game.
Kate was equally good in tennis, lettering all four years
that she played. She won the tennis coach’s award two
consecutive years, was the team captain and Most Valuable
Player her senior year.
Kate did not neglect her studies during her many athletic
achievements. She was a member of the T.H.S. National Honor
Society, and graduated with honors.
She is a 1989 graduate of the Indiana University School of
Optometry, and practices in Vienna, Virginia.
