Kim Winkler is truly one of Talawanda High School’s all time great athletes. She played four years of volleyball, four years of basketball and four years of softball, and excelled in all of them. However, it was in basketball that she earned her greatest recognition.

During the period of 1976-79, Kim was the best basketball player in the Mid Miami League. Twice, she was named M.M.L. Player of the Year. She was also the Golden Triangle Player of the Year in 1978, and a first team all M.M.L. all star in 1977, ‘78 and ‘79. She was a southwestern Ohio all star selection in 1979, and also a high school All American in 1979. She was Talawanda’s leading scorer for three consecutive years! In softball, she was the outstanding defensive infielder in the league.

Upon graduation from Talawanda, Kim enrolled at the College of Mt. St. Joseph, where she won all kinds of awards. She led the basketball team in assists and steals for two consecutive years. She was voted best defensive player and honorable mention All Ohio in both 1982 and 1983, and was an all American nominee. During her senior year, she was team captain and was third in the nation for field goal shooting percentage. In softball, she was team captain and most valuable player her senior year.

In post college softball, Kim has played on a state championship team in 1986, and a class “B” National Championship team in 1984. In 1993, her softball team won another state title and was national runner up.

She has coached the Talawanda girls basketball team to M.M.L. titles in 1984, ‘85 and ‘86. She was M.M.L. Coach of the Year in 1985 and ‘86, Golden Triangle Coach of the Year in 1986, and Butler County All Star Coach in 1986.
