Without a doubt, David Bittner was one of the greatest
athletes ever to come out of Reily High School. He played 4
years of basketball, 4 years of volleyball, and 3 years of
track and field.
In 1955, and in 1956, he led Reily to consecutive Butler
County baseball championships as a hard hitting first
baseman. However, it was basketball at which Dave truly
excelled, and is best remembered. In 1956, David led Reily
to its only Butler County tournament basketball
championship. In so doing, he set the county tournament
scoring record when he made 40 points, including a then
record 16 field goals. For 2 consecutive years, he had
season averages of over 28 points per game. In both 1956
and 1957, he was first team all Butler County, a member of
the Cincinnati Post All Star team, and Honorable Mention,
all state.
Upon graduation from Reily, David received a full athletic
grant-in-aid to play basketball at Transylvania College in
Lexington, Kentucky. In 1961, Dave led the Hamilton Mosler
Safe team to the Ohio Industrial League Championship.
