Dale Bufler was one of the finest four sport athletes ever
to come out of Stewart High School. He played four years
each of football, basketball, baseball, and track.
For football, he was a fast, hard hitting fullback,
starting 3 consecutive years.
In basketball, Dale had the distinction of making the
varsity starting lineup as a freshman, thus making him a
four year starter. He was the team’s leading scorer for 3
years, and also an all league selection and captain his
senior year.
In track, Dale was the Butler County champion in the 100
yard dash his senior year. He also was anchor man for both
the 880 and mile relay teams. Both were championship relay
teams.
Dale was an outstanding pitcher for three straight years
for Coach Larry Bowers’ baseball teams, as he led the team
to consecutive district baseball championships. In one
game, he struck out 16 batters. He also has the distinction
of beating Joe Nuxhall and the Hamilton Big Blue two to
one. This was after Nuxhall pitched a game in the major
league.
A very good golfer to this day, Dale was the very first
player to make a hole in one at the Hueston Woods Golf
Course. He had a very successful career as a school
administrator in Butler County.
