Few people would disagree with the argument that Chris
Elzey was Talawanda’s greatest male basketball player.
During his 3 years as a starter the team compiled a record
of 50 wins and only 18 losses. His senior year, the team
won the Mid Miami League championship as well as the
district and sectional titles.
Chris holds the following Talawanda basketball records:
career points, 1,273; single game record, 42 points; free
throws, single game, 18; free throws, season, 177 points;
and field goals in a single season, 211.
Twice, Chris was an unanimous first team, all MML selection
and voted player of the year as a senior. He was first
team, all southwest district selection and a second team
all state selection as a senior. In 1983, he played in the
annual North/South high school all star game. He was an All
Star selection by the Cincinnati Post, the Dayton Journal
Herald, and player of the year by the Hamilton Journal.
Upon graduation, Chris received a full athletic
grant-in-aid to the University of Pennsylvania where he was
a big success. He has played professionally in Europe and
Austrailia.
