Lee Hunt’s outstanding high school athletic career began at
Oxford Stewart High School in 1955, as a 6 feet, 200 pound
14 year old freshman. He started every football game that
year as an offensive center and defensive middle guard. For
the next three years at Talawanda High, now a 6’3” 225
pounder, Lee started every football game, playing both
offense and defense, giving him the rare distinction of
being a four year football first stringer. During those
three years, the Talawanda team won 26 games, lost 2, won 2
league championships, and one co-championship. In addition,
Lee was first team all league and first team all county
each of these three years. He was generally regarded as the
best two way lineman in the county.
In basketball, Lee was a three year starter, twice making
first team all league. In track and field, Lee was the best
shot putter in the county for three consecutive years. In
his senior year, he was southwestern Ohio district champion
in the shot, thus becoming Talawanda’s first athlete to
qualify to go to the state meet in any sport.
Upon graduation, Lee was awarded a full athletic
grant-in-aid in football to Miami University. He will
always be remembered as one of Talawanda’s greatest all
round, three sport athletes.
