Karen Kuhlmann was a 1970 graduate of Talawanda High
School. During her four years of athletic competition,
Karen participated 13 seasons in field hockey, basketball,
volleyball, and track.
Karen’s stand-out athletic performance in field hockey,
basketball, and volleyball helped these teams achieve
highly successful seasons - of which many were undefeated.
In track and field, Karen’s accomplishments included Butler
County Invitational meet records, in both shot put and the
softball throw. She continued varsity competition in field
hockey, basketball, and softball at Miami University.
Softball was not part of the Talawanda program, but Karen
helped the Oxford Merchants win the State tournament in
1968, and then helped Sweeney Chevrolet win the World
tournament in 1978.
Karen’s contribution to the Talawanda Athletic program
included leadership, participation, and service through the
GAA and the intramural program which, at that time, were
the “backbones” to girls’ athletics.
Karen had earned and was recognized as the Talawanda High
School Outstanding Athlete in 1970.
