Scott Breeden has been selected
for induction into the Talawanda Hall of Fame for his
contributions in athletics at Reily School, as well as
his accomplishments as a player, and a coach in major
league baseball. Scott played baseball, basketball,
volleyball, and ran cross country and track in the
early 1950’s, playing in the Butler County League with
Hanover, Trenton, Fairfield, Middletown, Hamilton
Catholic, Stewart, McGuffey, and more. Known today as
a great high school baseball player, in 1955, Scott
finished the hoop season with a 13.9 scoring average,
in the top 20 of the Butler County League. Reily won
the Butler County Tournament in basketball in 1956, as
well as the baseball championship. They also won the
baseball crown in 1955.
Scott’s professional baseball background includes numerous
minor league stops across the country, from Victoria,
Texas, to Spokane, Washington. He is most often remembered
as the pitching coach for the Cincinnati Reds under Pete
Rose, from 1986-1989. Scott’s other professional coaching
jobs include the Reds’ organization from 1967-1981, and the
Chicago Cubs in 1982-1983. Since 1990, Scott has been with
the Toronto Blue Jays organization, where he is presently
coordinator of the entire minor league system.
Again with pride, we induct Scott Breeden, representing
Reily School, as a member of the first class into the
Talawanda Athletic Hall of Fame
