During the early years of Talawanda High School, the athletic programs for women were not seen with the same competitive eye we are familiar with today.

From 1958 through 1970, women’s sports at Talawanda consisted of field hockey, track, basketball, volleyball, softball, and the intramural program. There was one leader, one coach, and that was Jean Marks.

The programs that she developed were not only successful and rewarding, but helped establish the “tradition” in women’s athletics at Talawanda. Her leadership, determination, and dedication placed Talawanda in the forefront of “girl’s” competitive sports in Butler County.

In Jean’s twenty-two years of coaching at Talawanda High School, there are many outstanding accomplishments; most notable, her records in field hockey of 41-3-8, which included 9 undefeated seasons, and her basketball teams compiling a 70-15 record with three undefeated seasons.
