Pete was a stand-out in both track and baseball, and he has the distinction of being the last player to compete in both sports at the same time on the same day.
He was selected first team Mid-Miami League, All League Player, and also received the league Most Valuable Player award. During his participation in track, Pete established records at Talawanda in the 100 and 200 yard dash, and went on to become a district champion in those events.
Pete was named to the MML’s All League Track team and was twice named to the All State Track and Field team. In 1972, Talawanda recognized Pete Rome as Athlete of the Year.
