Many fine athletes walked the hallowed halls of Hanover High School. Only a few achieved the level of “outstanding”. Tonight the Talawanda Athletic Hall of Fame honors Dewey Miller for his many athletic accomplishments.

A 1948 graduate, Miller earned 12 varsity letters at Hanover, 4 in baseball, 4 in basketball, and 2 each in volleyball and track. It was
in basketball that Dewey is most remembered as he helped his teams to a 14-2 record in ‘46, a 12-4 record in ‘47 and a Butler County Championship in ‘48. Dewey also was part of county team championships in volleyball and track. Miller placed first in the discus and 3rd in the shot put as a senior. Dewey also was recognized as the Butler County Champion in Table Tennis.

After graduation, Dewey continued playing sports in the Champion Paper Mill League, but is remembered by more people for his 32 year career officiating high school basketball and baseball. Dewey is also credited with organizing and administering the Hamilton Women’s Volleyball League from 1971-1989.

Tonight we recognize Dewey Miller for his athletic success at Hanover High School, his commitment to excellence serving Butler County as a sports official for 32 years, and welcome him into the 8th class of the Talawanda Athletic Hall of Fame!
