In his athletic career at THS, Mitch played basketball and golf. In basketball, Mitch was a varsity standout for 2 seasons, and was known to be an excellent perimeter shooter, and the team’s FT % leader. It was his golf success that brings him to us tonight!
The golf team at Talawanda did well while Mitch was at THS. There record of 86-8 over 4 years is most impressive. Mitch’s contributions to that team’s success, and his individual successes in tournaments outside of HS competitions, is even more impressive.
Mitch led his Talawanda team to the State Tournament 3 times, with finishes of 9th(’75), 2nd(’76) and 11th(’77). Mitch finished as high as 2nd individually in the ’76 event. He was All League, All Butler County, All Southwest Ohio all 4 years, and recognized All State 3 times.
Individually, Mitch set, and still holds the Oxford Country Club record of 61. One of Mitch’s most remarkable accomplishments was in the Ohio Junior Golf Association Championships. Mitch finished 1st in ’75 and ’76, in the 15 & under competition, he then finished 1st again in 1979 in the 18 & under event. His 3 Ohio Junior Championships is a record shared only with the great Jack Nicklaus. These are truly Hall of Fame credentials!
