We are excited to kick off this year once again with our social marketing campaign at all three Talawanda elementary schools! The purpose of this campaign is to encourage our elementary students to reflect on the way that they think and act and how this makes a difference when interacting with their peers, teachers, family members, and their school community. The campaign, “STEP UP!, focuses on the Search Institute’s 40 Developmental Assets®, encouraging our students to adopt these assets as a part of their life in order to become successful and healthy young people who contribute to their community and make a difference in the lives of others. The “Word of the Month” program will provide focus on one specific asset at a time for the entire school community to reflect upon. Through guidance presentations, poster campaigns, all school announcements, and prepared classroom activities, the students will have the opportunity to engage in activities that stress the importance of the asset in the child’s life. Our goal is for the students to see the value of these attributes and characteristics in their life and to internalize them as a part of who they are now and what they hope to become in the future. The earlier we can build a foundation for our students, the more skills and resources they will have when they are presented with the tough choices later on in life. Talawanda is committed to building assets and providing prevention-based programming for ALL students.
For more information and a list of the 40 Developmental Assets®, please visit the Search Institute’s website at www.search-institute.org.
