What is RSS and iCal?
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. It is a method of web publishing that pushes content to RSS readers subscribed to RSS feeds. Instead of requiring the user to load a website to see what changed since their last visit, the latest content is automatically loaded by their RSS reader. Example RSS readers are Google Reader, NetNewsWire, and Firefox.
RSS is also what powers podcasts. In this case, mp3's are automaticallly downloaded when new episodes are released. An RSS feed is used to notify the podcast player of the new content.
iCalendar, more commonly known as iCal, is a similar feed format for calendar data.
